Read to hear about some new fighting games you never of? How about one that involves Bikini clad women? If you answered yes, or no, to those questions prepare to be bombarded with one of the most eclectic fighting games of the current generation.
Bikini Karate Babes
Bikini Karate Babes is a 2D fighting game which debuted in 2002. It has digitized graphics developed by Creative Edge Studios. It features an all-female cast of 19 fighters all in bikinis. Supposedly, the game plays similarly to Street fighter and Mortal Kombat. Then again that was on Wikipedia so take from that what you will.
The characters are named after goddesses of mythology, and each character’s traits correspond with said goddess (even though I swear Cassiopeia was not a goddess but a Queen cursed by Poseidon for her vanity, but what do I know). The reason for the bikini warriors to be in bikini’s was an interesting one.
So apparently, Bikini Karate Babes was created in order to poke fun at the state of fighting games of the day. The irony in said statement is that the first installment is so saturated with sexual appeal and lacking legit fighting styles that it pretty much remained in the shadow of the very fighting games they tried to parody.
Reception for the first iteration of Bikini Karate Babes was mostly negative. This was mainly due to the game being…kinda shitty. I mean hey, Creative Edge can claim the moral high ground about the state of fighting games if they want to, however this game is way more sexualized then even DOA and even then, DOA had a decent combo system that made it viable outside of having T&A.
If watching that video didn’t convince you of this disaster piece, you can also play the game here.
Bikini Karate Babes 2: Warriors of Elysia
Released in North America June 21st, 2011, the second iteration of Bikini Karate Babes is actually my favorite. Having done some research on this game, the creative team decided to take a different approach. A choreographer taught the women some decent fighting style looking moves. The result is it actually looks pretty presentable as a decent fighting game and maintains its sexual appeal.
Something else the second iteration of Bikini Karate Babes got was an actual story. Some neon bikini clad ladies take on the original cast for some serious domination. They also added another sassy black chick because, you know, sassy black chicks make everything awesome (like this website).
In addition to the fighting and backstory, Bikini Karate babes 2 received updated graphics and has since be developed for phones with improved soundtrack, animation, and visual effects. There are 24 unique songs to this game. I couldn’t find the mobile link, but here is the link to play the game for free.
Bikini Karate Babes 3: A New Challenger
According to the official twitter and Facebook for Bikini Karate Babes, there is a third sequel to be released. The creators this time has decided to start a patreon for the game. Unlike the previous installments which were for PC and MAC, this game will be exclusively mobile. From what I have seen of the new cast in this game, it seems to still maintain what got the game attention in the first place. Nothing about the fighting style or the story has been released however if this game will be an improvement on Warriors of Elysia that’s an automatic plus in my book.
Now while I included the patreon link, you guys are not obligated to donate. This is purely informational and I guess entertaining if you like my brand of humor. This is a fighting game website after all.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this article. Again, if you want to play the first two games the links are available. If you have any other games you think I’m missing by all means please send me a message on twitter @fgc_online.
