I figured it’s time to start the new year talking about a game so niche, it makes Skullgirls blush. This game, is Terrordrome: Rise of The Boogeymen. I found out about Terrordrome from a Dashiegames video. I was in awe that a game like Terrordrome could exist without a myriad of cease and desist notices shutting them down. It has a decent set of characters, an interesting story, and a pretty impressive fighting system. Awe struck feels aside, lets delve into the Horror based indie fighting game.
According to the website, Terrordrome – Rise of the Boogeymen is a free fan made game. It is a tribute to the most popular horror movie icons of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. The game makes use of the 3D models that faithfully replicate the iconic characters and integrate them as 2D art style. Each of their fighting styles stay true to their nature and abilities as seen in the movies.
The sounds and stages are directly grabbed from scenes in the movies these characters come from. The game is powered by 2D Fighter maker 2002, a 2D fighting game engine, much like Mugen. Theame started as a hobby and took nearly 9 years to be completed.
The cast of characters for Terrordrome include both classic and undead Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kruger, Leatherface, Michael Myers, Ashley Williams, Tallman, Chucky, Ghostface, Matt Cordell, Candyman, Herbert West, Pumpkinhead, and Pinhead.
Terrordrome has a decent following. Since it supports online play Terrordrome is often played with many people. To highlight these moments, an official YouTube channel called Terrordrome TV. Yeah you heard that right. Terrordrome 2 is in the works. According to a blog entry on their site, the narrative structure is going to be some what MKX inspired. The goal is to create a fighting game that is an amazing fighting with strong story elements. As it stands now, they are only in the pre-production phase. An official crowdfunding campaign hasn’t been started but they do accept donations.

It’s a shame this game isn’t as well known in the FGC. It’s an impressive game with an interesting premise. While it may not look like Tekken 7 in regards to graphics, there was a lot of effort put into this game. It would be amazing if Terrodrome could get some more notoriety.
